Bhopal: More than 1.14 lakh cases were settled across Madhya Pradesh in Lok Adalats held on Saturday, with awards exceeding Rs 800 crore granted to litigants. The statewide exercise was inaugurated by Madhya Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, who emphasized the importance of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in reducing the burden on courts.
Massive Bench Strength for Speedy Justice
A total of 1,459 benches were constituted across the state to facilitate settlements through mutual consent. In addition, eight benches of the high court functioned at its Jabalpur, Indore, and Gwalior benches during the proceedings, ensuring that even higher-level disputes could be addressed promptly.
Bhopal Lok Adalat: Key Highlights
In Bhopal, 61 benches handled cases throughout the day, successfully disposing of 17,517 matters through mediation. Awards worth Rs 39 crore were passed in favor of litigants, providing them with timely relief. Among the cases disposed of, 2,963 were pending cases and 14,554 were pre-litigation cases. A total of 3,101 pending cases and 14,942 pre-litigation cases were put up for settlement in the Lok Adalat.
Principal District Judge of Bhopal, Manoj Kumar Shrivastava, inaugurated the Lok Adalat by lighting ceremonial lamps and garlanding the statue of Devi Saraswati, symbolizing the pursuit of knowledge and justice.
Types of Cases Settled
Compoundable criminal cases and civil disputes were taken up for settlement through mutual agreement of the litigants at the Lok Adalats. This approach not only reduces the backlog of cases but also fosters amicable resolutions, saving time and resources for all parties involved.
