Nainital DM Orders Boat Audit for Environment Safety

District magistrate Lalit Mohan Rayal has directed the municipal body to conduct a thorough audit of all boats operating in Nainital to verify environmental compliance and operational safety. Any boat found leaking hazardous substances during maintenance or operation will be confiscated without delay.

Measures to Prevent Water Contamination

The Public Works Department has also been instructed to ensure that chemicals from roadwork on Lower Mall Road are properly contained and do not flow into the lake. Officials suspect that the recent contamination of the water body is linked to ongoing road repairs and lakeside boat maintenance activities.

DM's Strong Warning

DM Rayal emphasized that Nainital, being a 'Sarovar Nagri' (City of Lakes), relies heavily on its ecosystem for survival. He stated, 'No form of environmental negligence will be tolerated. Clear instructions have been issued. Any chemical discharge into the water body will result in the strictest possible action.'
