Ahmedabad residents should prepare for significant traffic disruptions over three consecutive days as multiple infrastructure and event-related closures take effect across the city. The Western Railway's maintenance schedule coincides with major public events, creating complex traffic management challenges.
Railway Track Maintenance Schedule
The Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway (WR) has announced crucial track maintenance work that will affect three major crossings. Gandhigram crossing no. 21 will be closed on November 16 between 8 am and 6 pm, followed by Sarkhej-Makarba crossing no. 24 on November 17 during the same hours, and finally Sarkhej-Anandnagar crossing no. 28 on November 18 from 8 am to 6 pm.
All three crossings will remain completely inaccessible to vehicular traffic during these periods. The Ahmedabad City Traffic Police has advised commuters to utilize the service roads adjacent to these crossings as alternative routes.
Major Events Adding to Traffic Woes
Adding to the transportation challenges, the Indian Red Cross Society in Ahmedabad will host the 'Waves of Kindness - A Movement for Humanity' walk event on November 16. The charity walk will commence from Bajrang crossroads on Sindhubhavan Road and conclude at Fun Blast near Gotila Garden.
One side of the road will be closed for vehicular traffic starting from 2 pm until the event concludes. To manage the flow, the opposite lane between Taj Hotel on SP Ring Road and Pakwan crossroads on SG Highway will accommodate two-way traffic during the walk duration.
Additional Event-Related Road Closures
Another significant event, the 'Sardar Sanman Yatra,' will take place on November 16 from 8 am to 2 pm. The procession route spans from Viratnagar fuvara circle to Khodiyar temple on 80 feet road, continuing through Kothiya Hospital, Uttamnagar canal, Mangal Pandey Hall, Damru circle, Navrangpura school, and finally reaching Shemol Mata Mandir in Odhav.
The traffic police have implemented specific diversions to manage the procession impact:
- Viratnagar crossroads till Ring Road: Alternative route via Viratnagar crossroads to Soni Ni Chali, then accessing Ring Road
- Thakkarnagar bridge to Khodiyar temple in Nikol: Commuters should take Thakkarnagar to Gopal Chowk to Bahuchar Chowk toward Khodiyar temple
- Khodiyar temple crossroads to Thakkarnagar bridge: Route available from temple to Bahuchar Chowk to Gopal Chowk then Thakkarnagar
- Manmohan crossroads to Viratnagar: Vehicles can proceed from Manmohan crossroads to Khodiyar temple to Bahuchar Chowk to Gopal Chowk then Viratnagar
Authorities urge residents to plan their travel carefully, consider alternative routes, and allow extra time for commutes during these scheduled disruptions. The coordinated efforts aim to ensure public safety while accommodating essential infrastructure maintenance and significant community events.
