UP Chief Electoral Officer Conducts Inspection of Electoral Revision in Ghaziabad District
In a significant move to ensure electoral integrity, Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa conducted a thorough inspection at the notice hearing centre located at Nagar Palika Balika Inter College in Sahibabad, Ghaziabad. The visit focused on reviewing the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) programme across the district, a critical initiative aimed at purifying and updating voter lists ahead of upcoming elections.
Interaction with Booth Level Officers and Supervisors
Following the inspection, Rinwa engaged in detailed discussions with booth level officers (BLOs) and supervisors from multiple assembly constituencies, including Loni, Muradnagar, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Dhaulana (partial). This interaction took place at Hindi Bhawan in Lohia Nagar, where he emphasized the pivotal role of these officials in maintaining electoral transparency.
During his assessment of the hearing centre, the CEO meticulously examined the available facilities, procedural frameworks, and the complaint redressal mechanisms in place. He also took the opportunity to speak directly with voters present at the centre and gathered valuable feedback from representatives of various political parties, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of on-ground realities.
Emphasis on Voter Convenience and Democratic Participation
Rinwa underscored the importance of treating citizens with courtesy, transparency, and sensitivity at all electoral centres. "Strengthening democracy hinges on active voter participation, and it is our fundamental responsibility to ensure that no eligible voter faces any inconvenience in exercising their democratic right," he stated firmly.
He issued directives to officials to organize additional camps wherever necessary, particularly in areas experiencing high footfall for Form 6 submissions and mapping-related tasks. "The role of BLOs is absolutely crucial in guaranteeing a fair, transparent, and error-free SIR process. Special vigilance must be maintained during the purification of the electoral roll to ensure that every eligible citizen's name is accurately included," Rinwa added, highlighting the meticulous approach required.
District-Level Initiatives and Progress Updates
District Electoral Officer and DM Ravindra Mander provided a comprehensive briefing to the CEO on the door-to-door verification drives and extensive voter awareness campaigns being conducted throughout Ghaziabad. Mander reported that 86 special camps have been organized at both booth and society levels to facilitate citizens in the enrollment and verification processes.
"The effective implementation of this exercise depends largely on the dedication and sincerity of our BLOs and supervisory officers. We are running a highly focused campaign to ensure that the voter list is completely error-free and that all eligible citizens are properly enrolled," Mander explained, outlining the district's commitment to electoral accuracy.
Current Electoral Roll Statistics and Targets
The draft electoral roll for Ghaziabad, published on January 6, includes over 20 lakh voters. Among these, a total of 1,53,048 voters are categorized as 'unmapped.' Officials have made significant progress, with notices served to approximately 96% of unmapped voters, and hearings are currently ongoing to resolve these cases.
Ghaziabad district has set an ambitious target of March 15 to complete the entire notice hearing process. Expressing satisfaction with the progress achieved so far, Rinwa directed officials to maintain the same level of pace and commitment in the coming weeks to meet this deadline effectively.
Recognition for Exemplary Work
In a gesture of appreciation, the CEO felicitated 39 BLOs, 11 BLO supervisors, six assistant electoral registration officers, and five electoral registration officers for their exemplary contributions to the SIR programme. These individuals were presented with certificates and gifts, acknowledging their hard work and dedication in ensuring the success of electoral revision efforts in the region.
