R Ashoka slams DK Shivakumar over 'Brand Bengaluru' vision

Leader of Opposition in Karnataka, R Ashoka, launched a scathing attack on Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday, accusing him of 'criminal neglect' over the 'Brand Bengaluru' vision. In a sharp post on social media platform X, Ashoka also mocked the Global Bengaluru Association's (GBA) walk challenge, questioning the government's priorities amid the city's growing infrastructure woes.

Ashoka's allegations

Taking to X, Ashoka wrote, 'Criminal neglect: LoP R Ashoka targets DK Shivakumar over 'Brand Bengaluru' vision, mocks GBA's walk challenge.' He accused Shivakumar, who serves as the Minister in-charge of Bengaluru Development in the Siddaramaiah-led cabinet, of failing to address the city's pressing issues such as traffic congestion, potholes, and water scarcity. The BJP leader termed the 'Brand Bengaluru' initiative a mere publicity stunt, saying it lacks concrete action.

Mocking the walk challenge

Ashoka also ridiculed the GBA's walk challenge, an event aimed at promoting fitness and civic engagement. He sarcastically remarked that instead of walking for fitness, the government should walk the talk on development. 'While the city drowns in problems, they are busy organizing walkathons. This is nothing but a distraction from their failures,' Ashoka stated.

Shivakumar, who is also the state Congress president, has been championing the 'Brand Bengaluru' vision to transform the city into a global hub. However, Ashoka's criticism highlights the growing political tension over Bengaluru's deteriorating infrastructure. The development comes as the state gears up for the 2028 assembly elections, with both parties trading barbs over governance.

As of now, Shivakumar has not responded to Ashoka's remarks. The GBA walk challenge, scheduled for next week, is expected to proceed as planned despite the political backlash.
