Enhanced Coordination and Enforcement Measures
To bolster election integrity, the Election Commission held a review meeting on March 24. The meeting included chief secretaries, chief electoral officers (CEOs), director generals of police (DGPs), and senior officers from five poll-going states/UTs and their twelve bordering states/UTs. Heads of enforcement agencies also participated to assess poll readiness and facilitate enhanced coordination for violence-free, intimidation-free, and inducement-free elections.
Key enforcement measures implemented include:
- Deployment of over 5,173 flying squads across states/UTs to ensure complaints are addressed within 100 minutes.
- Deployment of over 5,200 static surveillance teams (SSTs) for setting up nakas at various locations for surprise checks.
The Commission has directed enforcement authorities to ensure that ordinary citizens are not inconvenienced or harassed during inspections. Additionally, district grievance committees have been established to address any related grievances.
C-Vigil App: A Tool for Public Participation
Between March 15 and 25, a total of 70,944 complaints were lodged using the C-Vigil app, with 70,831 of them disposed of. Impressively, almost 96% (67,899 complaints) were resolved within the stipulated 100-minute timeframe, demonstrating the app's effectiveness in facilitating swift action against electoral violations.
This comprehensive crackdown underscores the Election Commission's commitment to maintaining the sanctity of the electoral process, ensuring that elections are conducted without undue influence or corruption.
