Delhi Terror Alert: LeT Threat Near Red Fort, Temple Target

Intelligence Alert Issued for Delhi Amid Terror Threat Near Red Fort

An urgent intelligence alert has been activated in Delhi following credible inputs indicating a potential terror threat in the vicinity of the historic Red Fort. According to sources cited by news agency ANI, the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) may be plotting an attack, with a temple in the Chandni Chowk area identified as a possible target.

Specific Threats and Potential Targets

Intelligence sources have revealed that key religious sites, particularly those around the Red Fort and in parts of Chandni Chowk, remain under the surveillance of Lashkar-e-Taiba. The group is allegedly planning an improvised explosive device (IED) attack, with a temple in Chandni Chowk being a focal point of concern.

Quoting intelligence inputs, sources stated: "Blast alert in front of the Red Fort in Delhi. Terrorists may target a temple in Chandni Chowk. Lashkar-e-Taiba is plotting an IED attack. They are planning a major terrorist attack in India to avenge the February 6th mosque blast in Islamabad, Pakistan. Major temples in the country can be targeted by Lashkar-e-Taiba."

This suggests that prominent religious places across India are on the group's radar, though authorities have not publicly confirmed specific details of the alleged plot. Security arrangements have been significantly bolstered around sensitive locations in the national capital as a precautionary measure.

Background: The November 2025 Red Fort Blast

The current alert emerges against the backdrop of a devastating car explosion near the Red Fort on November 10, 2025, which resulted in 12 fatalities. The blast, caused by a vehicle loaded with explosives near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, ignited fires in multiple nearby vehicles.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is handling the investigation into that incident. Recently, on February 13, a Special NIA court at Patiala House Court extended the investigation period by an additional 45 days to conclude the probe into the November 2025 Delhi blast case. The NIA had initially sought a 90-day extension.

The court also extended the judicial custody of seven accused individuals until March. Security agencies remain on high alert as they continuously assess the latest intelligence inputs to prevent any potential threats.

Security Response and Ongoing Vigilance

In response to the intelligence warning, security forces have intensified patrols and surveillance in and around the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk areas. Authorities are employing advanced monitoring techniques and coordinating with local law enforcement to ensure public safety.

While the specific details of the threat are still under evaluation, the heightened security measures reflect a proactive approach to mitigating risks. Residents and visitors are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities immediately.

The intelligence alert underscores the persistent challenges faced by security agencies in safeguarding critical landmarks and religious sites from terrorist activities. Ongoing investigations and collaborative efforts aim to disrupt any planned attacks and maintain peace in the region.
