Congress Initiates Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan in Manipur to Revitalize Party Structure
In a significant move to reclaim political ground in Manipur, Venogopal Rao, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) observer under the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan (SSA), visited Churachandpur on Wednesday. His mission was to spearhead comprehensive organisational reforms aimed at strengthening the party's presence across the northeastern state.
Directives from High Command Drive Reform Initiative
Rao emphasized that this initiative follows explicit directives from AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and leader of the opposition Rahul Gandhi. Both leaders have called for a renewed and vigorous push to rebuild the Congress party's base throughout the northeast region, recognizing its strategic importance in national politics.
Explaining the policy in detail, Rao stated: "Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan is a reformative initiative of the AICC designed to select district Congress presidents at district headquarters. This process involves all blocks, stakeholders, party leaders, and cadres, with individual consultation conducted in a fully transparent manner." He further clarified that the reorganisation will occur at the district level in an unbiased and fair way, as directed by the party's high command.
Congress Gaining Momentum Nationwide
Rao stressed that the Congress party is regaining momentum across India, citing recent successes as evidence of this resurgence. "Congress is gaining ground and has started reclaiming seats across India, as clearly seen in the electoral outcomes in Telangana," he remarked confidently.
Regarding Manipur specifically, Rao asserted: "Congress has not lost followers or leaders here. Instead, their numbers are steadily increasing. With their unwavering support, we will decisively remove the misrule of the present government in Manipur." He added with conviction, "Congress will not sink. It will bounce back and return to power across the country, state by state."
Bharat Jodo Yatra and Social Commitment Highlighted
Referring to Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rao highlighted its widespread impact: "From Kanyakumari to Kashmir, the Yatra evoked a tremendous response from the people, demonstrating the enduring connection between Congress and the masses."
He also underscored the party's deep social commitment, stating: "Congress is dedicated to the welfare of the downtrodden, Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), minorities, and women. Our policies are rooted in inclusivity and social justice." Pointing to the changing political mood in Telangana, he observed: "In my state, people once mocked Congress, asking 'kaha hai Congress?' But now they know the reality of our resurgence and growing influence."
Key Attendees and Strategic Discussions
Rao was accompanied by Christopher Tilak, secretary in charge of the northeast, along with two observers from the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC). The delegation received a warm reception from the Churachandpur District Congress Committee (DCC).
A crucial meeting led by DCC president T Chawngbiak delved into the specifics of reorganisation policies and strategies. Discussions covered:
- Implementation of transparent selection processes for district leadership
- Engagement with local stakeholders and party cadres
- Strategies to counter the current state government's policies
- Plans to expand Congress's voter base in Manipur
This visit marks a pivotal step in Congress's efforts to revitalize its organisational framework in Manipur, setting the stage for a concerted push to challenge the ruling party in upcoming elections.
