Youth's Body with Stab Wounds Recovered from Ganga River Bank in Patna

In a distressing incident, the body of a young man was discovered at Kantahi ghat under the Alamganj police station area of Patna City on Saturday morning. The deceased has been identified as Ankit Kumar, aged 22, a resident of the Kharakuan locality in the city.

Discovery and Initial Police Response

Local residents first noticed the body washed up on the banks of the Ganga river and promptly informed the authorities. Upon receiving the alert, officials from the Alamganj police station swiftly arrived at the scene. They took possession of the body and initiated a preliminary investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

Initial observations by the police revealed that the youth's body bore serious injury marks, suspected to be stab wounds. This led investigators to suspect that Ankit Kumar was murdered at a different location, with his body subsequently dumped into the Ganga river in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence or conceal the crime.

Forensic Examination and Postmortem

To gather crucial evidence, a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was called to the spot. They collected samples and other forensic materials for detailed analysis. Following this, the body was transported to the NMCH-Patna for a comprehensive postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Police Investigation and Case Registration

Alamganj Station House Officer (SHO) Rahul Kumar Thakur confirmed that a murder case has been registered against unidentified persons under relevant sections of the law. The police have intensified their probe to apprehend those responsible for this heinous act. Statements from family members will be recorded as part of the investigation, and the final cause of death will only be confirmed after the autopsy report is received.

In a significant development, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Patna City, Raj Kishore, provided additional details. He stated that according to the family, the youth had been missing since Friday evening. However, they did not inform the police, who only learned about the body on Saturday morning. The family has identified some individuals in connection with the case, and stab marks are clearly visible on the victim's body. To ensure a thorough investigation, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed.

Ongoing Probe and Evidence Collection

The police are also scrutinizing footage from CCTV cameras installed at the ghat and surrounding areas to gather clues about the incident. This step is part of a broader effort to piece together the events leading to the youth's death and identify potential suspects.

This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting concerns about safety and law enforcement in the area. The police have assured that they are leaving no stone unturned in their investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
