A 25-year-old woman is fighting for her life after being shot in the head by her brothers outside a community health centre in Saharanpur on Monday evening. According to SP (rural) Sagar Jain, the woman had been missing since March 16 and voluntarily appeared at a police station on Monday morning. She informed officers that she had left with a man from another caste and wished to live with him. After recording her statement, police arranged for her to be taken to the community health centre for a medical check-up, with the transport provided by a sub-inspector and accompanied by a woman constable.
As the police vehicle arrived at the health centre, her brothers, identified as Monty Kumar and Ravi Singh from Ramkhedi village, approached on a motorcycle. They intercepted the vehicle and moved close to the window under the guise of speaking to her. Before the police could intervene, one of the brothers allegedly fired at her with an illegal pistol, critically injuring her. The assailants then fled the scene on their motorcycle.
