Woman and Lover Arrested for Alleged Murder of Mother-in-Law in Mathura Village
In a shocking incident from Bhankarpur Basela village under the Raya police station of Mathura district, a 25-year-old woman and her 19-year-old lover have been arrested for the alleged murder of her 55-year-old mother-in-law. The arrests were made on Wednesday, following a police investigation that uncovered a gruesome crime initially disguised as a natural death.
Incident Details and Initial Cover-Up
The tragic event occurred in the early hours of March 3, when the elderly woman reportedly caught the accused in a compromising position. This led to an altercation, during which the duo allegedly suffocated her with a pillow. At the time, the deceased's husband and son were away from home. Upon returning, they were informed by the daughter-in-law that the woman had died of a heart attack.
Trusting this explanation, the family proceeded with the burial. However, suspicions arose later, prompting the husband to lodge a formal police complaint. He revealed to authorities that his daughter-in-law had been involved in a relationship with a neighbor, and despite family objections, the two continued to meet secretly.
Police Investigation and Postmortem Findings
Acting on the complaint, the district magistrate ordered the exhumation of the body on Tuesday. A subsequent postmortem examination revealed critical evidence: death was caused by asphyxiation, and the victim also had a fractured neck bone. These findings confirmed the case as a homicide, contradicting the initial claim of a heart attack.
Mathura Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar stated that a case has been registered at the Raya police station under section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Legal proceedings are currently underway, with the accused now in custody facing serious charges.
Broader Context and Community Impact
This incident has sent shockwaves through the local community in Agra and Mathura, highlighting issues of domestic conflict and crime in rural Uttar Pradesh. The police are emphasizing the importance of thorough investigations in such cases to ensure justice is served. As the legal process continues, authorities are working to gather further evidence and statements to build a strong case against the accused.
The arrest underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in handling sensitive family matters that escalate into violence. It also serves as a reminder of the critical role forensic science plays in uncovering the truth behind suspicious deaths.
