Tragic Accident Claims Life of Young Woman Near Rajokri Flyover
A devastating road accident in the early hours of Monday resulted in the death of a 23-year-old woman and injuries to two others, including a pedestrian. The incident occurred near the Rajokri flyover in south-west Delhi, underscoring the grave dangers posed by improperly parked heavy vehicles on highways.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The victim, identified as Srishti Sisodia from Sector-15, Dwarka, was returning from her workplace in Gurgaon when the black compact SUV carrying her rammed into a stationary truck. The collision happened around 3:48 am, with the vehicle traveling towards Delhi. The truck, which had a burst tyre, was parked near the flyover without any warning signs, reflective tape, or hazard lights.
The driver of the truck, Prakash Kumar (29) from Mansara village in Bihar's Darbhanga district, has been apprehended by authorities. A preliminary police investigation revealed that the SUV crashed into the rear of the truck, causing significant damage, particularly to the passenger seat on the left side where Sisodia was seated.
Emergency Response and Legal Action
Upon receiving the report, a police team rushed to the scene and found both vehicles severely damaged. The three injured individuals were immediately transported to the AIIMS trauma centre. Tragically, Sisodia was declared dead at the hospital, while the other two victims are currently undergoing treatment.
The body has been shifted to the AIIMS trauma centre mortuary for preservation and post-mortem examination. A case has been registered at Vasant Kunj South police station under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- Section 281: Rash driving or riding on a public way
- Section 125: Act endangering life or personal safety of others
- Section 106: Death due to negligence
The crime team has conducted a thorough inspection of the accident site to gather evidence and determine the exact circumstances leading to the collision.
Broader Safety Concerns Highlighted
This tragic incident brings to light the persistent and growing menace of unattended or unmarked heavy vehicles parked on highways and flyovers. Experts emphasize that such vehicles become particularly hazardous at night when they are nearly invisible to passing traffic due to:
- Poor lighting conditions
- High speeds on highways
- Limited shoulder space on flyovers
The absence of proper warning signs, reflective materials, or hazard lights leaves drivers with minimal reaction time, transforming these parked vehicles into potential death traps. This concern was previously flagged in September, highlighting the urgent need for stricter enforcement and awareness regarding proper parking protocols for heavy vehicles.
As authorities continue their investigation, this accident serves as a sobering reminder of the critical importance of road safety measures and the devastating consequences when they are neglected.
