Vintage Jeep Leads Road Safety Rally Through Jorhat District
A grand bike and car rally rolled through Jorhat town and major townships of the district on Monday. This vibrant event formed part of the ongoing National Road Safety Month celebrations. District officials spearheaded the rally with a clear mission to spread crucial awareness about traffic safety.
Officials Lead in Historic Style
Deputy Commissioner Jay Shivani and District Transport Officer Dhananjoy Saikia led the procession in a distinctive manner. They chose a World War II-era US vintage open jeep as their vehicle. This historic jeep set a unique tone for the entire rally.
The classic vehicle created a striking visual as it moved through the urban centres. A convoy of participating cars and bikes followed closely behind it. The sight captured public attention effectively across the district.
Extensive District-Wide Outreach
The rally adopted a comprehensive approach covering the entire district. It made strategic stops at several key locations to maximize its reach. The procession halted at Titabor, Mariani, Teok, and Pulibor.
These stops ensured the road safety message reached all major towns across Jorhat district. At each location, officials addressed gathered crowds directly. Shivani and Saikia highlighted critical aspects of road safety and traffic awareness during these interactions.
The sessions allowed for direct engagement with citizens. Officials discussed various important issues with the public. Topics ranged from proper helmet usage and seatbelt compliance to responsible driving practices and pedestrian safety measures.
Officials Emphasize Safety and Discipline
Deputy Commissioner Shivani shared his perspective on the rally's purpose. He stated that road safety extends beyond mere rule-following. According to him, it fundamentally involves respecting the value of human life.
"Through this rally, we want to remind every citizen that their safety is our priority," Shivani explained. "But the change must begin with their own commitment to traffic discipline."
District Transport Officer Saikia elaborated on their choice of format. He said they specifically wanted to grab people's attention, particularly the youth. Using the vintage jeep and the rally format helped achieve this goal effectively.
"This approach helped us engage with people directly," Saikia added. "We aimed to ensure that the rules of the road are not just heard but understood and followed properly by everyone."
Month-Long Safety Initiatives Planned
The district administration has planned several more programmes throughout the month. These initiatives aim to sustain the momentum generated by the rally. Officials want to ensure the spirit of National Road Safety Month leads to tangible results.
Upcoming activities include specialized workshops for commercial drivers. The administration will also organize school-level competitions focused on safety themes. These efforts target a permanent reduction in road mishaps across the Jorhat district.
The rally successfully combined a unique visual element with a serious message. By using a historic vehicle and engaging directly with communities, officials hope to foster lasting behavioral change among road users in the region.
