Police Encounter in Unnao Leads to Arrest of Two Robbers
In a dramatic late-night incident, police in Unnao engaged in an encounter with suspected robbers near Pakshi Vihar in Nawabganj, resulting in one criminal being shot in the leg and the arrest of two individuals. The event unfolded on Sunday night when officers from Ajgain Kotwali police station were conducting routine checks of suspicious vehicles along the Nawabganj Pakshi Vihar Ring Road.
Fleeing Suspects Trigger Police Action
Upon being signaled to stop, the riders of a TVS sport bike immediately turned around and attempted to flee towards Kanhai Kheda village. As police cordoned off the area, the criminals abandoned their motorcycle and opened fire on the law enforcement team. In the ensuing retaliatory action, one of the suspects was shot in the left leg and subsequently apprehended along with his accomplice.
Identities and Criminal Backgrounds Revealed
The arrested individuals have been identified as Govind, a 19-year-old resident of Himmatgarh under Sohramau police station, and Rahul alias Golu, a 24-year-old from Jalim Kheda under Ajgain Kotwali area. Govind, who sustained a gunshot wound to his leg, was promptly transported to CHC Nawabganj for medical treatment. During interrogation, Govind confessed to a robbery earlier on March 9, where he and another accomplice, Karan, stopped a truck driver between Nawabganj Toll Plaza and Pakshi Vihar.
In that incident, the criminals forcibly took Rs 8,000 in cash and coerced the driver into transferring Rs 21,225 via UPI. Inspector Suresh Singh of Kotwali police station confirmed that significant evidence was recovered from the accused, including:
- The abandoned TVS sport bike
- A country-made pistol
- Two mobile phones
- Rs 2,800 of the looted money
Habitual Offenders with Extensive Criminal Records
Both apprehended criminals are described as habitual offenders with serious criminal histories. Govind has six cases of robbery and violations under the Arms Act registered against him at Ajgain, Sohramau, and Dahi police stations. Rahul alias Golu faces even more severe charges, with nine serious cases on his record. Police have launched a search operation to locate the third accused, Karan, who remains at large. This incident highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat robbery and violent crime in the region.
