In a shocking incident in Udupi, a 24-year-old man allegedly assaulted two police personnel and threatened to kill them when they arrived at his home to execute a pending warrant. The event occurred on Wednesday in Uppoor village, Brahmavar, leading to the arrest of the accused, identified as Kishore, who has since been remanded to judicial custody.
Details of the Police Operation
According to a complaint filed by Suresh Kumar, a head constable from Malpe police station, he and another head constable, Adarsh, were deputed by the Circle Inspector to execute a warrant in a case registered under sections 8A(C), 20(b)(ii)A, and 22(b) of the NDPS Act. The police team reached Kishore's residence around 6:50 AM to carry out their duty.
Violent Confrontation and Assault
Upon arrival, the officers called out to Kishore from the courtyard. In response, he allegedly attempted to flee the scene. As the constables apprehended him, a violent altercation ensued. Kishore is accused of hitting Suresh Kumar on the face and jabbing his ribs with an elbow. He also allegedly assaulted Adarsh, striking him on the face, scratching his left hand and right abdomen, and punching his left shoulder.
In a further escalation, Kishore reportedly snatched the department walkie-talkie from Suresh Kumar and threw it to the ground, causing significant damage to the equipment. He then allegedly instructed his mother to bring a knife and threatened to kill the policemen on the spot.
Aftermath and Legal Actions
Despite the aggressive resistance, the police team managed to secure Kishore under the warrant and transported him to Malpe police station. Both constables, Suresh Kumar and Adarsh, sustained injuries during the incident and later received medical treatment at Udupi District Hospital.
A fresh case has been registered at Brahmavar police station under sections 132, 121(1), 352, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 2(a) of the Prevention of Destruction and Loss of Property Act. This legal action underscores the seriousness of the assault and the threats made against law enforcement officers.
