Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Two Roorkee Residents Amid Dense Fog Conditions

In a heartbreaking incident that unfolded early Saturday morning, two men from Roorkee lost their lives after their speeding vehicle plunged into a sub-canal of the Gangnahar canal. The fatal accident occurred between Roorkee and Manglaur amid extremely dense fog conditions that severely reduced visibility on the road.

Sequence of the Tragic Events

The vehicle, carrying two close friends, reportedly rammed into a roadside guard railing with significant force. The impact was so severe that it broke through the protective parapet before plummeting into the canal waters below. The violent collision ejected both occupants from the car, leading to their tragic demise.

Local residents first noticed the submerged vehicle in the sub-canal and immediately alerted the authorities. A police team promptly reached the accident site and conducted the difficult task of retrieving the bodies from the water.

Victims Identified as Wedding Attendees

The deceased have been identified as Sachin Dhiman, 38, and Vikas Tyagi, 35, both residents of Roorkee. According to family members, the two close friends were returning from Deoband where they had attended a wedding ceremony.

Bhupendra Kumar, Dhiman's brother-in-law, revealed that the duo had departed for Roorkee around 2 am on Friday. Tragically, the accident occurred approximately 3 kilometers before they would have reached their destination, cutting short their journey home.

Official Investigation Underway

Preliminary investigations by officials suggest that the dense fog played a critical role in the tragedy. The driver allegedly failed to notice a crucial turn near Rana Steel due to the severely limited visibility conditions. This oversight caused the vehicle to break through the guard railing and parapet before plunging into the sub-canal.

Sub-inspector Rakesh Dimri of Manglaur police station provided details about the ongoing investigation. "Postmortem examinations have been conducted and the bodies have been handed over to the grieving family members," stated Dimri. "We are currently collecting CCTV footage from nearby areas to establish the precise sequence of events leading to this tragic accident."

Safety Concerns Amid Adverse Weather

This incident highlights the serious dangers of driving during dense fog conditions, particularly in areas with water bodies and sharp turns. The accident serves as a sobering reminder for motorists to exercise extreme caution when visibility is compromised by weather conditions.

The local community has been left in shock by the sudden loss of two young lives, with authorities emphasizing the importance of adhering to safety protocols during adverse weather situations to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
