Chandigarh: The Sector 17 police have arrested two individuals for allegedly breaking into a showroom in Sector 17 and stealing approximately Rs 15 lakh in cash. The accused have been identified as Nitesh and Amandeep, both residents of Jagatpura in Mohali. Amandeep works as a taxi driver, while Nitesh is a daily wage labourer. According to police sources, both are addicted to drugs.
Incident Details
The complainant, the cleaning lady, arrived for work on Wednesday morning and noticed that the locks on the showroom had been broken. She immediately informed the showroom owner, Deepak. Upon inspection, Deepak discovered that around Rs 15 lakh in cash had been stolen from a drawer and promptly alerted the police.
Investigation and Arrest
During the investigation, the police examined CCTV footage from cameras installed inside the showroom and in the surrounding areas. The accused were identified with the assistance of special informants. They were subsequently arrested near Sector 17. The CCTV footage revealed that both accused entered the showroom at approximately 3:30 am after breaking the locks. They remained inside for about 35 minutes and fled with the cash at around 4:10 am. The stolen money has been recovered by the police.
The police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
