Rohtak: In a significant political development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a major victory in the municipal polls in Sampla. Party-backed candidate Praveen Coach emerged victorious by defeating independent candidate Ankit by a margin of 687 votes. The Congress party had not fielded any candidate for the chairman post from Sampla.
Election Results and Vote Share
According to the official results announced, Praveen Coach secured a total of 4,391 votes, while Ankit finished second with 3,704 votes. The BJP also managed to win 5 out of the 16 councillor seats in the municipal body, further consolidating its position in the region.
Praveen Coach's Victory Speech
After his victory, Coach expressed gratitude to the people of Sampla for reposing faith in him. He assured that all promises made during the election campaign would be fulfilled. Specifically, he promised that the BJP government would bring the metro from Bahadurgarh to Sampla, as it was an election promise made by him.
Coach acknowledged that the town has been facing serious issues related to water supply and sewerage. He stated that efforts would be made to resolve these problems, although it may take time. He further added that he would work together with other candidates and stakeholders for the overall development of Sampla.
BJP's Perspective on the Victory
BJP district president Ranbir Dhaka termed the victory historic. He noted that Sampla was once considered a stronghold of late deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal and later of Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who currently represents the area assembly segment—Garhi-Sampla-Kiloi as an MLA. Dhaka pointed out that in the previous municipal election, the BJP candidate had lost by nearly 3,500 votes, making the current victory particularly significant.
Dhaka also alleged that Hooda had become trapped in "family politics," the impact of which, he claimed, had already been reflected in the assembly elections. The BJP leadership believes that this win marks a shift in the political landscape of Sampla.
The results have been welcomed by BJP supporters, who see it as a mandate for development and good governance. The party is now expected to focus on fulfilling its electoral promises and addressing the key issues facing the town.
