Two weeks after a principal of a Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) school in Gurgaon survived a vicious assault, the police have apprehended two individuals, one of whom is a minor. The attack, which also left a security guard injured, was allegedly orchestrated to "teach a lesson" to the educator.
Arrests Made in Planned Assault
The Gurgaon police produced Sundar (37), a resident of Rajeev Nagar, before a city court on Thursday, a day after taking him into custody. The second accused, a minor, has been sent to a juvenile justice facility. According to police officials, the assault was a direct result of a personal dispute that originated within the school premises.
An investigating officer revealed that Sundar claimed his nephew, a student at the same KV school in Sector 14, was involved in a conflict with classmates. This dispute reportedly escalated after the principal intervened to stop a group of boys from teasing female students near the school gate, an action that angered the accused.
Chilling Sequence of Events on December 29
The violent incident unfolded on December 29 outside the KV school in Sector 14. Initial tensions flared in the afternoon when a group quarreled with and assaulted students outside the main gate. The situation took a more sinister turn later in the day.
Around 4:25 PM, as the principal was leaving the campus, the attackers, who were lying in wait near the gate, signaled his vehicle to stop. They then launched a brutal attack using sticks. Police reports detail that the assailants repeatedly struck the car, shattering the front windscreen.
"Glass shards hit the principal's face and eyes. Sensing the seriousness of the situation, the principal abandoned the vehicle and ran back inside the school premises," an officer stated. The security guard who bravely attempted to intervene was also beaten up with sticks by the attackers.
Motive Rooted in Personal Animosity
Police investigations, as reported to TOI, indicate that the attack was premeditated. Sundar, along with another nephew and a few associates, planned the assault motivated by personal animosity arising from the earlier school dispute. Sundar himself termed the attack as "motivated" by this grudge.
Attempts to get an official response from the school authorities regarding the incident and the subsequent arrests have so far been unsuccessful. The case highlights serious concerns about violence spilling from school disputes into targeted attacks on educators. The police action, coming two weeks after the crime, has brought the first steps towards accountability in this alarming case of school-related violence in Gurgaon.
