Storm Debris Leads to Catastrophic Plunge

Investigations reveal that debris from a severe storm the previous night had been left scattered across the road. The driver, unable to navigate around the obstruction, lost control of the vehicle.

The pickup subsequently fell off the bridge, resulting in immediate tragedy. The impact of the crash proved fatal for two passengers:

  • Malti Mitharam Bhilavekar, 18-year-old resident of Lavada village
  • Samay Chunnilal Sawalkar, 45-year-old resident of Lavada village

Both victims succumbed to their injuries at the accident site, while six others sustained severe trauma.

Emergency Response and Medical Treatment

Following the crash, an urgent rescue operation was launched. The injured were transported to the Sub-District Hospital in Dharni with assistance from multiple sources:

  1. The Kolhe family provided immediate support at the scene
  2. A government ambulance was deployed for medical evacuation

Among the injured were driver Ram Kolhe (32) and Chandni Jambekar (19), both of whom sustained serious injuries requiring advanced medical attention. They were referred to Amravati for specialized treatment.

Later reports indicated that Ram Kolhe's condition deteriorated significantly, necessitating his transfer to Nagpur for more comprehensive care due to the severity of his injuries.

Official Investigation and Political Response

Police officers from Dharni Police Station have registered a formal case and initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. The probe will examine road conditions, driver response, and storm-related factors.

Local political leaders demonstrated concern for the victims by visiting the hospital. Kevalram Kale, the area's MLA, and Prabhudas Bhilavekar, BJP district president for Melghat and former MLA, personally inquired about the condition of the injured at Dharni Sub-District Hospital.

The tragic incident highlights ongoing road safety concerns in rural areas, particularly regarding infrastructure maintenance following severe weather events. The community mourns the loss of two members while praying for the recovery of those injured in this preventable tragedy.
