Two Cousins Killed in Pilibhit Truck Accident

A horrific road accident in Pilibhit district resulted in the deaths of two young cousins on Saturday night. The tragedy unfolded around 9 pm near Narayanpur village in the Barkhera area.

Details of the Fatal Collision

Vikas Shrivastav, aged 19, and Shivam Shrivastav, aged 24, were riding a motorcycle on the Bhind–Lipulekh National Highway 731. They were heading to their native village, Narayanpur, when disaster struck.

A timber-laden truck traveling from Bisalpur to Udham Singh Nagar district in Uttarakhand collided with their motorcycle. The impact was severe. The truck dragged the motorcycle for almost 20 metres before coming to a stop near a petrol pump.

Immediate Response and Driver's Attempt to Flee

Petrol pump staff and passing motorists heard the loud crash. They rushed to the scene immediately. Witnesses reported that the truck driver tried to escape the spot after the accident.

However, alert locals caught the driver before he could get away. They then handed him over to the police authorities. The quick action by the community ensured the driver did not evade responsibility.

Police Action and Legal Proceedings

Police officers arrived promptly and sent both victims to the community health centre at Barkhera block headquarters. Doctors at the centre examined them but declared them dead on arrival.

Barkhera Station House Officer Pramendra Kumar provided details about the case. He confirmed that the truck has been seized by the police. The driver is now in custody facing serious charges.

An FIR has been registered against the driver under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The charges include Section 106 for causing death by negligence and Section 281 for rash driving on a public way. Other relevant provisions have also been invoked in the case.

Background of the Victims

Family members shared that both cousins were actively engaged in agricultural work. They also ran a shoe business together at Takri. Takri is a commercial hub located along the national highway near their village.

Vikas Shrivastav was the son of Hari Shankar Shrivastav, a local BJP office-bearer. The double tragedy has left the family and community in deep mourning. The incident highlights ongoing road safety concerns on busy national highways.
