Two Arrested in Jalandhar Gym Firing Case After 5 Months

In a significant breakthrough, the Jalandhar police have arrested two individuals in connection with a brazen firing incident that occurred near a local gym five months ago. The arrests come after an extensive investigation into the case that had caused alarm in the Model House area of the city.

The Incident and Immediate Aftermath

The shocking event took place on the evening of September 24, 2023. According to police reports, two motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire in the vicinity of a gym located in the Model House locality. The gunshots targeted a gym-goer, identified as Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, a resident of Basti Bawa Khel. Fortunately, Gurpreet Singh escaped unharmed in the attack.

Following the incident, a case was registered at the concerned police station under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with relevant sections of the Arms Act. The police immediately launched a manhunt to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

The Arrests and Police Investigation

After nearly five months of sustained investigative efforts, the police team succeeded in tracking down and arresting the two accused. The arrested individuals have been named as Lovepreet Singh, alias Lovely, and Gagandeep Singh, alias Gagan. Both are residents of Jalandhar.

Police officials stated that the motive behind the firing appears to be rooted in an old enmity between the accused and the target, Gurpreet Singh. The assailants allegedly used a .32 bore pistol to carry out the attack before fleeing the scene on their motorcycle.

Ongoing Probe and Recovery of Weapon

With the primary accused now in custody, the investigation is moving forward. The police are intensively questioning Lovepreet Singh and Gagandeep Singh to uncover all details of the crime and to explore potential connections to other criminal activities. A key focus of the interrogation is to locate and recover the firearm used in the shooting.

Authorities have confirmed that efforts are ongoing to retrieve the weapon. The police are also examining if the accused have any prior criminal history or involvement in other cases. This arrest is seen as a crucial step in curbing gang-related violence and ensuring the safety of citizens in public spaces like gyms.

The Jalandhar police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and have assured the public that all efforts are being made to bring the case to a logical conclusion, ensuring justice is served.
