Three Men Arrested for Robbing Elderly Woman of Gold Chain in Udupi
In a swift police operation, three individuals were apprehended shortly after robbing a 69-year-old woman of her valuable gold chain in Shankarapura, located within Kaup taluk of Udupi district. The incident occurred on Saturday, with Shirva Police successfully recovering both the stolen jewellery and the motorcycle used during the crime.
Details of the Robbery Incident
According to SP Hariram Shankar, the victim, identified as Helen D'Souza from Kurkalu village, was engaged in making jasmine garlands in her backyard with a friend around 9:30 AM. At that time, Anand, a former tenant, arrived at her residence accompanied by two others, inquiring about the availability of a rental room. After a brief conversation and sharing tea, Helen informed them that no rooms were currently available. The trio then proceeded to visit her sister Theresa's house nearby.
Approximately 15 minutes later, at around 9:45 AM, one of the accused returned to Helen's home, requesting her mobile number under the pretext of contacting her for future room needs. As she was providing the number, the assailant suddenly grabbed her neck and forcefully snatched her gold chain, which weighed 28 grams and was valued at approximately Rs 3.5 lakh. When Helen attempted to resist and scream for help, her sister Theresa heard the commotion and rushed to intervene. The perpetrators pushed Theresa aside and hastily fled the scene on a motorcycle.
