A tragic incident unfolded at a popular tourist spot in Dhanbad on Saturday evening, resulting in the death of a 15-year-old boy. The teenager, identified as Aditya Paswan, lost his life due to drowning in the waters of the Maithon dam while on a picnic with a large group.
Details of the Maithon Dam Tragedy
According to available information, the unfortunate event occurred near the Sports Hostel area of the Maithon dam. Aditya Paswan was a resident of Bhelatand under the Barwadda area of Dhanbad district. He had visited the scenic location as part of a group of approximately 30 students. The picnic was reportedly organised by his tuition teacher.
During the outing, the young boy entered the water. The exact circumstances that led to him drowning remain unclear. However, the situation quickly turned dire, leading to a frantic search and rescue effort.
Rescue Attempt and Aftermath
Alert local boatmen present at the site immediately rushed to help upon realising the emergency. They conducted a search operation and managed to retrieve Aditya's body from the water. In a bid to save his life, he was swiftly transported to the DVC-run BP Koylanchal Hospital, also known as BP Niyogi Hospital.
Unfortunately, the efforts were in vain. Doctors at the hospital examined him and declared him brought dead. The news sent shockwaves through the local community and the group he was with.
Police Investigation and Formalities
Following the drowning incident, personnel from the Maithon police reached the spot to begin their inquiries. The officials took charge of the situation and informed the grieving family members of Aditya Paswan about the heartbreaking loss.
The police then completed the necessary legal formalities. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the precise cause of death. Upon completion of the procedure, the remains were handed over to the devastated family for the last rites.
This incident serves as a sombre reminder of the potential dangers associated with water bodies, especially during recreational outings. It underscores the critical importance of constant supervision and adherence to safety protocols near dams and reservoirs, even at established tourist spots.
