Trichy: A 16-year-old boy and two of his associates were arrested for allegedly stealing gold jewellery worth more than Rs 2.3 lakh from his aunt's house in Trichy.
Police said the minor, who had lost both his parents, was living with his aunt Alagurani, 47, near Puthur. He had recently asked the family to buy him a motorcycle, but they refused. On April 28, Alagurani found that 4.3 sovereigns of gold jewellery, including chains and earrings, were missing from the house and lodged a complaint with police.
During the investigation, police questioned the teenager and found that he had allegedly stolen the jewellery and sold it with the help of his friends — S Vijay, 25, of Kallangadu, and T Dinesh, 24, of MGR Nagar, who has previous criminal cases against him. Police arrested the trio and recovered 33g of gold jewellery.
A case was registered under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The minor was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and later released on bail, while Vijay and Dinesh were remanded in judicial custody.
