Teenager Shot in Foot Following Argument Over Money

A violent dispute over a debt of Rs 10,000 escalated into a shooting on Monday in Ludhiana, leaving a 17-year-old boy injured. The incident occurred near Bhagwan Das Colony, close to the Jalandhar Bypass chowk.

The victim has been identified as Love Singh, a resident of Ashok Nagar. He sustained a bullet injury to his foot and was promptly admitted to a private hospital for medical treatment. Police officials confirmed they have identified the individuals responsible and are actively working to apprehend them.

Sequence of the Attack

According to the police account, the attack unfolded when Love Singh and his friend, Aniket, were riding a motorcycle towards the Jalandhar Bypass chowk. They were allegedly followed and then intercepted by at least four other youngsters on separate motorcycles.

The assailants opened fire. One bullet struck Love Singh in his foot. After the attackers fled the scene, Love's friend rushed him to a private hospital and informed his family, who then alerted the police.

Providing more details, the victim's sister-in-law stated that Love and Aniket had gone to a filling station near the Jalandhar bypass. The accused arrived at the same location and launched their attack. She claimed the first bullet hit a can at the station, while the second struck Love's foot. The assailants also allegedly beat him, causing a head injury.

Root Cause: A Heated Argument Over Debt

Inspector Harshveer Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Salem Tabri police station, revealed that the preliminary investigation points to a monetary dispute that began two days prior to the shooting.

The core issue was a sum of Rs 10,000 borrowed by the accused from Love Singh's girlfriend. When the borrower refused to return the money, a heated argument ensued over a phone call involving Love Singh. Inspector Singh stated that this argument ultimately led to the targeted attack on Monday, with the primary accused being accompanied by three friends.

Investigation Status and Victim's Condition

While some local residents reported hearing two to three gunshots, police, based on initial information, maintain that only one round was fired. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts concentrated on locating the suspects.

Doctors have stated that Love Singh's condition is currently stable. However, they have declared him unfit to record a formal police statement at this stage. A case will be registered once his statement is officially recorded.

The police are making concerted efforts to track down and arrest all individuals involved in this brazen daylight attack.
