Rajkot Police Arrest Man for Serial Sexual Assault on Family Members

The Rajkot Rural Police have taken into custody a differently abled man accused of perpetrating horrific sexual crimes against his own daughter and minor niece over an extended period. This disturbing case has sent shockwaves through the local community and highlights vulnerabilities within family structures.

Arrest and Multiple FIRs Filed in Gruesome Case

On Saturday, authorities formally booked and arrested the accused for the repeated rape of his daughter, who is now an adult. The crimes are alleged to have occurred continuously over the past several years. Police officials have indicated that another First Information Report (FIR) is likely to be registered on Sunday concerning similar sexual assaults committed against his teenage niece, who is a minor.

Background of the Accused and Family Situation

The arrested individual, who earns his livelihood by repairing electronic devices, has been differently abled since infancy after being affected by polio at just seven months old. He resided in a joint family arrangement in Rajkot. This household included his wife, who is battling an advanced stage of breast cancer, his daughter, and the wife and daughter of his younger brother. The younger brother works and lives in a different town, which created a vulnerable environment.

How the Case Unfolded: From Missing Person to Crime Revelation

The matter first came to police attention on January 3 when the accused himself approached the jurisdictional police station to file a missing person complaint for his daughter. Initial search efforts by the police station proved unsuccessful. Subsequently, the father escalated his request to higher authorities, urging them to locate his daughter.

The investigation was then transferred to the Local Crime Branch (LCB), which successfully traced the young woman to an apartment in Rajkot city on January 28. Upon being found, she explicitly stated her refusal to return home, confirming she had left voluntarily. During detailed questioning, she courageously disclosed the prolonged sexual abuse she endured at the hands of her father.

Shocking Disclosures and Police Action

"When we probed further, she told us that she had continuously faced sexual assault from her father over a period of several years," an officer involved in the case revealed. "She also revealed that he subjected her minor cousin to a similar ordeal. She had told her cousin’s parents earlier, but they refused to believe her."

Rajkot Rural Superintendent of Police Vijay Singh Gurjar addressed mediapersons, stating, "To confirm this, we conducted a joint questioning, leading to the revelation that the rape had taken place." Based on this evidence, the police have charged the father under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rape and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, given the involvement of a minor.

This case underscores critical issues of trust, family dynamics, and the imperative for robust child protection mechanisms within communities.
