Pune Police Crack Down on Vehicle Theft, Arrest Nepalese National

The Pimpri Chinchwad police have successfully apprehended a Nepalese national and recovered a significant haul of stolen property, including four motorcycles and gold jewellery with a collective value of approximately Rs2 lakh. This arrest marks a crucial development in the ongoing efforts to combat rising vehicle thefts in the region.

Accused Identified and Taken into Custody

The individual in custody is Prakash Vishwakarma, aged 20, who resides in Chakrapani Vasahat, Bhosari, and originally hails from Mahendranagar in Nepal. Notably, Vishwakarma was already detained at Yerawada Central Prison following a prior arrest by the Bhosari police. The South Mahalunge MIDC police took him into custody from the prison facility for further investigation.

Investigation Leads to Breakthrough

Senior police inspector Vijay Dhamal of the South Mahalunge MIDC police station provided detailed insights into the case. He explained that the police conducted a thorough analysis of crime spots and meticulously reviewed CCTV footage to identify patterns and suspects in response to the increasing incidents of vehicle thefts. This proactive approach ultimately led to the identification of Vishwakarma as a key suspect.

During intensive questioning, Vishwakarma confessed to his involvement in four separate vehicle thefts and one burglary, all occurring in the Mahalunge and Talegaon MIDC areas. His modus operandi involved targeting motorcycles parked in the MIDC area parking lots, from which he stole the vehicles.

Recovery of Stolen Property

The police have successfully recovered all four stolen motorcycles from Vishwakarma. Additionally, he admitted to breaking into a residence within the MIDC area and stealing gold jewellery. The authorities have also recovered this stolen jewellery, ensuring the return of valuable items to their rightful owners.

Inspector Dhamal emphasized the importance of this arrest in curbing criminal activities in the region. "We took him into custody from prison. During questioning, he admitted involvement in four vehicle thefts and a burglary in the Mahalunge and Talegaon MIDC areas," he stated, highlighting the effectiveness of their investigative techniques.

This case underscores the Pune police's commitment to leveraging technology and diligent fieldwork to address and reduce crime rates, particularly in areas prone to theft and burglary.
