Pune's Pimpri Chinchwad Gets Green Light for Advanced AI-Powered CCTV Surveillance Network
Pimpri Chinchwad Police Gets AI CCTV Network Approval

The Maharashtra state government has given its official nod to a significant technological upgrade for law enforcement in the Pune Metropolitan Region. A high-powered committee, chaired by the additional chief secretary (home), has granted formal approval to the ambitious CCTV surveillance project specifically designed for the Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate. This initiative was spearheaded by Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey.

Project Leadership and Committee Structure

To ensure effective execution, Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey has been appointed as the chairperson of the dedicated project implementation committee. This committee will comprise a multidisciplinary team of key officials. Members will include the commissioner of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), senior police officers, and representatives from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and other relevant government departments. This collaborative structure aims to streamline coordination and resource allocation for the project's successful rollout.

Vision for an Integrated Surveillance Network

The core objective of this surveillance project is to establish a centralized and fully integrated monitoring network across the entire Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate. According to an official statement, the system is designed to be a force multiplier for public safety. A key feature of the plan involves integrating thousands of existing CCTV cameras that are already installed under two major civic initiatives: the Pimpri Chinchwad Smart City Mission and the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). Beyond integration, the project mandates a strategic expansion of camera coverage to include critical locations and areas that have previously lacked surveillance infrastructure.

Strategic Coverage of Key Zones

The press release detailing the project outlined a focused strategy for surveillance coverage. High priority will be given to major industrial zones that are vital to the region's economy. These include the Chakan MIDC, Talegaon MIDC, and Bhosari MIDC industrial areas. Furthermore, the network will extensively cover the Hinjewadi IT and technology park, a major employment hub known for its high traffic density and round-the-clock activity.

In addition to commercial and industrial areas, the project will place special emphasis on enhancing security at significant religious and pilgrimage centres. Locations such as Dehu and Alandi, which attract large numbers of devotees throughout the year, will receive dedicated surveillance coverage to ensure the safety of pilgrims and manage crowd control effectively.

Advanced Technology and Operational Command

This is not merely an expansion of camera numbers; it represents a technological leap forward. The new CCTV cameras will be equipped with advanced, AI-enabled video analytics software. This intelligent system will empower authorities with capabilities for real-time crime detection, efficient investigation support, automated traffic enforcement, proactive crowd monitoring, and swift emergency response coordination.

To harness this technological power, a modern, integrated command and control centre will be established at the newly constructed office of the Commissioner of Police. From this central hub, live video feeds from across the network will be accessible in real-time to key law enforcement personnel. This includes Zonal Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), the Traffic DCP, and individual police stations, enabling a coordinated and rapid response to incidents.

In summary, this approved project aims to create a robust, AI-driven surveillance ecosystem. By strengthening law and order, enhancing crime prevention, improving traffic regulation, and bolstering disaster management capabilities, it seeks to transform urban security and public safety management in the Pimpri Chinchwad region of Pune.
