Police in Greater Noida have arrested a 21-year-old MBA student for his alleged involvement in a disturbing incident of vandalism and intimidation targeting women outside a girls' hostel in Knowledge Park. The arrest came on Sunday, four months after the event initially occurred, following the circulation of a video clip that brought the matter to light.
Video Evidence Triggers Police Action
According to authorities, the case was not reported when it happened in April. The investigation began only after the Knowledge Park police station received a 36-second video recording of the incident along with a formal written complaint this Sunday. The clip reportedly shows four men arriving at the hostel premises in a car.
One of the individuals, identified as the main accused, steps out carrying what appears to be a stick or rod. He then proceeds to smash the glass of a parked vehicle and strikes the walls of the hostel building. The situation escalates as the man is seen attempting to hit the terrace of the building with the weapon, where a woman was standing at the time. The video also captures other women on the terrace yelling in response to the threat before the accused and his companions flee the spot.
Arrest and Motive Behind the Attack
Acting on the evidence, police teams identified and apprehended the accused, named Vomesh Singh. Singh is an MBA student enrolled at a private college in the Greater Noida area. During the investigation, it was revealed that the attack was not random.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Greater Noida) Hemant Upadhyay stated that the vandalism stemmed from a prior dispute. A friend of the arrested student had gotten into a heated argument with the owner of the girls' hostel. This altercation allegedly prompted Singh to target the hostel property and intimidate the residents.
Legal Proceedings and Hunt for Accomplices
An First Information Report (FIR) has been officially registered at the Knowledge Park police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include:
- BNS Section 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt.
- BNS Section 352 for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace.
- BNS Section 351(2) for criminal intimidation.
ACP Upadhyay confirmed that Vomesh Singh is currently in police custody. Special teams have been formed to track down and arrest the three other individuals seen in the video who were involved in the incident. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover all details related to the case.
