Bengaluru East Corporation has urged the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) to expedite the transfer of land for several road-widening projects in the city. The move aims to accelerate infrastructure development and address traffic congestion in the eastern part of Bengaluru.
Corporation's Request to KIADB
During a recent review meeting, East Corporation officials, led by Commissioner Ramesh, emphasized the need for swift action on land transfer. Ramesh urged KIADB officials to speed up the process and ensure timely completion of the projects. The land transfer is critical for widening key roads that are currently narrow and prone to bottlenecks.
Key Road-Widening Projects Affected
The road-widening projects include stretches in areas such as Whitefield, KR Puram, and Marathahalli, which are major hubs for IT companies and residential complexes. These roads are frequently congested, and widening them is expected to improve traffic flow and reduce commute times for thousands of daily commuters.
Impact on Commuters
According to East Corporation estimates, the projects will benefit over 500,000 daily commuters once completed. The widening will also facilitate better access for emergency vehicles and public transport. The corporation has set a deadline for the land transfer to begin construction by the end of the year.
KIADB's Role and Challenges
KIADB is responsible for acquiring and transferring land for industrial and infrastructure projects. However, delays in land acquisition have often hampered development in Bengaluru. Ramesh assured that the corporation would provide all necessary support to KIADB to overcome any hurdles.
