In a significant push to modernize crime investigation, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated a fleet of 34 mobile forensic science vehicles in Patna on Thursday. These state-of-the-art labs on wheels are designed to reach crime scenes immediately, collect evidence on the spot, and kick-start investigations without the delays that previously plagued the process.
Modern Tools for Swift Justice
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar personally inspected the vehicles before the flag-off ceremony, reviewing their arrangements and advanced facilities. He emphasized that these movable forensic laboratories are outfitted with modern investigation tools. This technological upgrade is expected to play a pivotal role in solving criminal cases in a much more timely and efficient manner.
"A zero-tolerance policy towards crime and corruption was adopted. For expediting the investigation of criminal cases, 34 new mobile forensic vehicles were deployed," stated an official release from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO). The statement further explained, "With their help, evidence can be promptly collected at crime scenes, initiating immediate investigation."
Ending Delays and Distress for Families
The launch addresses a critical gap in the traditional investigation workflow. Previously, after a crime was reported, police had to rely on distant, static forensic labs for evidence collection. This process was not only time-consuming but also prolonged the anguish for affected families awaiting justice and closure.
"Previously, after a crime, forensic labs had to be approached for evidence collection, which was time-consuming and caused distress to affected families. Now, the mobile team will start the investigation right at the crime scene, providing significant convenience," the CMO statement highlighted. This direct, on-site approach is set to revolutionize the initial phase of criminal probes in the state.
A Strengthened Legal Framework Since 2005
CM Nitish Kumar contextualized this initiative within Bihar's broader efforts to improve law and order. He noted that since 2005, his administration has established a robust legal framework, prioritizing systematic reforms. The deployment of the mobile forensic fleet is the latest in a series of measures aimed at bolstering the state's security apparatus and ensuring swift justice.
The high-profile event saw the presence of key state officials, including Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha. Also in attendance were Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Principal Secretary to the CM Deepak Kumar, and Director General of Police Vinay Kumar.
Other senior officers present included Development Commissioner Mihir Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department Arvind Kumar Chaudhary, Secretary to the CM Kumar Ravi, and Home Department Secretary Pranav Kumar. Senior police officials like ADG CID Parasnath, ADG Modernisation Sudhanshu Kumar, and ADG Provisioning Ajitabh Kumar were also part of the ceremony, underscoring the initiative's importance for the state's law enforcement.
