Nagpur Club Fracas: Police Case, Inspector Transferred

Nagpur Gondwana Club Fracas Leads to Police Case and Inspector Transfer

Police in Nagpur have registered a formal case following a violent altercation at the prestigious Gondwana Club located in Seminary Hills. The incident involved a security supervisor who reported that a group of individuals forcibly entered the club premises, broke locks, and repeatedly disrupted ongoing renovation work at the club's café.

Complaint Lodged and Immediate Police Action

The complaint was officially filed at the Gittikhadan police station on Monday, detailing the series of events that unfolded over several days. In a significant related development, police inspector Kailash Deshmane of the Gittikhadan police station was transferred from his position shortly after the incident came to light. This transfer is reportedly linked to the developments following the fracas at the club premises, indicating swift administrative action by the police department.

Background of the Cafe Renovation and Security Measures

According to the complainant, the Uphill Cafe at the Gondwana Club has been closed for renovation since January 19. To ensure safety and prevent unauthorized access during this period, the club management implemented a strict no-entry policy. They deployed two security guards specifically to monitor the area and stop any individuals from entering without proper membership or authorization.

Detailed Account of the Alleged Incidents

The First Information Report (FIR) provides a detailed narrative of the events. On January 31 around 5:30 PM, Cyrus Chang (40), Priya Thakur (38), Anushree Mahalle (35), and several others allegedly entered the club premises without membership. When security staff attempted to stop them, Priya and another woman reportedly threatened the guards with false police cases and physically pushed them aside. Following this, Cyrus Chang allegedly broke the locks of the cafe, entered forcibly, and locked the gate from inside.

Police reports indicate that the group allegedly repeated similar disruptive acts on Sunday, both in the morning and evening, and again on Monday morning. On each occasion, female bouncers were reportedly involved in preventing laborers from resuming the renovation work, further escalating the situation and causing significant delays to the project.

Legal Proceedings and Current Status

An FIR has been registered under sections 115(2), 351(2), 329(4), and 189(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against approximately 14 accused individuals involved in the incident. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Police authorities have conducted a scene panchnama to document evidence and are actively collecting further information to proceed with the investigation.

The case highlights ongoing tensions at elite social clubs in Nagpur and underscores the challenges faced by security personnel in maintaining order during renovation periods. The police are continuing their probe to ascertain the full extent of the allegations and determine appropriate legal actions.
