Tragic Accident Claims Life of 18-Month-Old Girl in Nagpur
A heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Nagpur on Friday when an 18-month-old toddler, Priyanshi Devpach, lost her life after being run over by a reversing light load carrier. The accident occurred in the Kharbi area, leaving her migrant family from Madhya Pradesh devastated and sparking immediate police action.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The tragedy took place around 1 pm at Vaishnavi Layout near Sai Baba Nagar, within the jurisdiction of Wathoda police station. While her mother was occupied with daily household chores, little Priyanshi, the younger of two siblings, innocently ventured out of her home onto a narrow lane. At the same time, a vehicle with registration number MH-49-BZ-6529, driven by 51-year-old Vishnu Gautam of Dhangawali Baba Nagar, was reversing after unloading construction materials nearby.
In a horrifying turn of events, the tempo crushed the child, causing severe head injuries. Two alert bystanders raised an alarm, prompting the mother and other family members to rush outside. The driver, Vishnu Gautam, also hurried to assist the toddler, who lay motionless on the ground. Despite being swiftly transported to Mayo Hospital, doctors declared Priyanshi brought dead on arrival, extinguishing all hopes of survival.
Legal Action and Police Investigation
Following the incident, Priyanshi's father, Vishnu, filed a formal complaint, leading to the registration of an FIR against the driver. The charges include rash driving and causing death by negligence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A senior police officer commented on the case, stating, "There was no intention behind the accident. We are calling it negligent behaviour, as the driver should have taken more precaution."
The accused driver was promptly detained, and the vehicle involved was seized by authorities. The investigation is currently underway, supervised by senior inspector Harishkumar Borade of Wathoda police station and handled by sub-inspector Atul Pawar. As part of the probe, the vehicle will be sent to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) for detailed scrutiny to ascertain any mechanical faults or violations.
Aftermath and Family's Grief
The distraught family, overwhelmed by the sudden loss, has left Nagpur for their native place in Madhya Pradesh with Priyanshi's body. This tragic incident highlights the critical need for heightened safety measures in residential areas, especially concerning vehicle movements. It serves as a somber reminder of the devastating consequences that can arise from momentary lapses in attention on the roads.
Local residents and authorities are now urging for stricter enforcement of traffic rules in narrow lanes and crowded neighborhoods to prevent such unfortunate occurrences in the future. The community mourns the loss of young Priyanshi, whose innocent life was cut short in a preventable accident.
