Nagpur Drunk Driving Tragedy Claims One Life, Injures Eight
A late-night celebration turned into a nightmare near Nagpur when a drunk driver caused a fatal accident, resulting in one death and leaving eight others injured. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, January 1, casting a shadow over the New Year.
Details of the Fatal Crash
The tragic event unfolded around 1 am near a petrol pump in Borgaon village, close to Saoner. According to police reports, the group was returning home to Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, after attending a party at a resort in Dhapewada. The driver, identified as 32-year-old Kunal Ishwar Ghodmare from Nagpur, was allegedly driving at high speed while intoxicated.
Officials stated that the SUV lost control and flipped over. The impact was so severe that 32-year-old Nikhil Gudadhe, a resident of Jabalpur, was trapped beneath the vehicle. With help from local residents, police managed to lift the SUV and rescue Gudadhe. He was immediately rushed to Saoner Rural Hospital, where the medical officer declared him dead on arrival.
Aftermath and Legal Action
The other seven occupants of the vehicle sustained serious injuries. All of them were admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Nagpur for treatment. The police have registered a case against the driver, Kunal Ghodmare, at the Saoner police station.
The charges include drunken driving and reckless driving among others. This incident highlights the continuing and deadly menace of driving under the influence on Indian roads, especially during festive periods. The authorities are investigating the case further.
