Wanted Murder and Rape Accused Injured and Arrested in Police Encounter in Fatehabad
A man accused in a murder and rape case was arrested after sustaining injuries during a police encounter with a Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) team from the Fatehabad district police on Monday. The incident unfolded on Bhakra Canal Road near Nagal village, leading to the apprehension of the suspect, who had been evading authorities.
Details of the Accused and Criminal Background
According to DSP Kulwant Singh, the accused, identified as Mahendra Singh from Fatehabad, was wanted in connection with the recovery of a woman's body found on a road in January. He faces a staggering 18 criminal cases, highlighting his extensive involvement in illegal activities. Notably, Mahendra Singh had previously escaped from Sirsa police custody, making his capture a priority for law enforcement agencies.
The Encounter and Arrest
The police operation was led by CIA Ratia team in-charge Sub-Inspector Pradeep Kumar. The team noticed a suspicious motorcyclist on Bhakra Canal Road and signaled him to stop. In response, the accused attempted to flee and opened fire at the officers. Two bullets struck the bulletproof jacket of ASI Raghubir Singh, but he remained unharmed due to the protective gear.
The police team retaliated, firing back and injuring the accused in the leg. He was subsequently overpowered and arrested at the scene. During the arrest, authorities recovered an illegal 32-bore pistol, four empty cartridges, and two live rounds from the accused, underscoring the dangerous nature of the encounter.
Aftermath and Medical Treatment
Following the arrest, Mahendra Singh was taken to a local hospital for initial medical attention. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to Agroha Medical College for further treatment. The police have confirmed that he is under custody and will face legal proceedings for his alleged crimes.
