Chandigarh Police Nab Snatchers, Burn Their Forest Hideout
Manimajra police arrest two snatchers, burn forest hut

In a decisive action against street crime, the Manimajra police in Chandigarh have successfully arrested two individuals involved in a series of snatching incidents. The accused were found to be using a cleverly concealed hut deep within a local forest as their hideout following their criminal activities.

The Arrest and the Hidden Lair

The police operation culminated on Friday with the arrest of the two accused. They have been identified as Afzal alias Salu, 30, a resident of Morigate, Manimajra, and Mohammad Sahadman alias Sadhu, 25, a resident of Gobindpura, Manimajra. A formal case was registered against them based on the complaint filed by Prem Pandey, 21, a resident of Shastri Nagar, Manimajra.

Acting on specific intelligence that the snatchers were fleeing into the wooded areas after their crimes, a police team launched a search. Their investigation led them to a hut strategically located in the dense forest behind the housing board in Manimajra. This secluded spot served as their primary shelter.

Unusual Security: A Pack of Guard Dogs

To secure their hideout from unwanted attention, the accused had employed an unusual and intimidating security measure. They had let loose approximately 20 dogs around the perimeter of the hut. This was a deliberate tactic to deter anyone from venturing near their secret base.

When the police team approached the area, the dogs aggressively ran towards them. To safely proceed with the operation, the personnel had to call in the dog control team from the Municipal Corporation (MC). The MC team managed to bring the animals under control, allowing the police to complete their mission and apprehend the suspects.

Destroying the Criminal Sanctuary

Following the successful arrest, the police took a strong, symbolic step to ensure the hideout could not be used by criminals in the future. In a collaborative move with the Municipal Corporation, the police set the forest hut on fire. This action was taken to permanently destroy the shelter and prevent it from becoming a safe haven for other antisocial elements operating in the region.

This operation highlights the innovative, albeit unlawful, methods criminals adopt and the proactive measures law enforcement is taking to dismantle their networks. By removing this physical sanctuary, the Manimajra police aim to disrupt similar criminal activities and enhance safety for local residents.
