A domestic dispute over a mere twenty rupees took a fatal turn in the national capital, leading to the tragic death of a woman. A 45-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly strangling his wife after she refused to give him money to buy cigarettes.

The Fatal Argument Over Cigarette Money

The incident occurred in the Gokulpuri area of Shahdara, East Delhi. According to police reports, the accused, identified as Rajkumar, got into a heated argument with his 40-year-old wife, Sunita, on the evening of April 26. The confrontation began when Rajkumar demanded twenty rupees from his wife to purchase cigarettes.

Sunita reportedly refused to give him the money. This refusal escalated into a violent quarrel. In a fit of rage, Rajkumar allegedly grabbed his wife by the neck and strangled her. The altercation happened inside their residence while other family members were present in the house.

Family's Discovery and Police Action

After the alleged murder, Rajkumar fled the scene. It was other family members who later discovered Sunita's body and immediately alerted the authorities. The police control room received information about the crime at approximately 11:15 PM on April 26.

A team from the Gokulpuri police station swiftly arrived at the location. They found the woman's body and initiated an investigation. Based on statements from family members and preliminary evidence, the police zeroed in on Rajkumar as the prime suspect.

A case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Gokulpuri police station. An intensive search was launched to apprehend the fleeing husband.

The Delhi Police's efforts led to the arrest of Rajkumar. He was taken into custody and is currently facing interrogation. During preliminary questioning, the accused purportedly confessed to the crime, stating that he lost his temper after being denied the small amount of money for cigarettes.
