In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the community, the Kolhapur city police have taken into custody a 48-year-old man for the alleged murder of his elderly parents. The suspect, identified as Sunil Narayan Bhosale, surrendered himself at the Hupari police station early on Friday morning following the brutal crime.
A Gruesome Morning Attack
The tragic event unfolded in the Mahavir Nagar area of the city, within an old-fashioned two-storey building that was the family home. According to details emerging from the investigation, the violence commenced around 5 am while the victims were still asleep. Sunil Bhosale is accused of first attacking his 78-year-old father, Narayan Ganpatrao Bhosale, by striking his head multiple times with a wooden stick.
The assailant then allegedly broke a window pane to procure a sharp shard of glass. He proceeded to use this improvised weapon to cut the wrists of both his parents. His mother, 70-year-old Vijaymala, also succumbed to the injuries inflicted during this horrific assault.
Arrest and Initial Investigation
After the attack, Sunil Bhosale presented himself at the Hupari police station. Following a mandatory medical examination, he was formally arrested on Friday evening. Inspector Nigappa Choukhande of the Hupari police station confirmed the arrest and provided initial insights into the case.
"We have just arrested him. He used to have frequent fights with his parents over petty issues," Inspector Choukhande stated. He further revealed that the complaint was lodged by the second of the three Bhosale brothers. The officer indicated that the police do not believe the crime was committed in a sudden fit of rage. "We believe that he murdered his parents not in a fit of rage, but with proper planning," he added.
Motive and Family Dynamics
Preliminary accounts from relatives and acquaintances of the family point towards a possible motive rooted in a property dispute. It is reported that Sunil, the youngest of three brothers, was demanding his share of the family property, a demand his elderly parents were reportedly unwilling to meet. His two older siblings live in a different town for business purposes.
However, the police have maintained a cautious stance on confirming this motive at this early stage. Inspector Choukhande clarified, "We so far have no information regarding the property dispute, neither has the complainant made any such claim. We will know only after the inquiry the motive behind the crime."
The police have completed the forensic analysis of the crime scene and are continuing their investigation to gather more information and establish a clear sequence of events and the precise reason behind this tragic act of violence.
