Bulandshahr Pocso Court Delivers 25-Year Sentence for Heinous Child Rape

A Pocso court in Bulandshahr has handed down a severe sentence of 25 years of rigorous imprisonment to a 45-year-old man for the brutal rape of his six-year-old niece. The convict, who was already out on bail in a prior murder case, was also fined Rs 53,000 by the court. This verdict underscores the judiciary's firm stance against crimes targeting children.

Details of the Horrific Assault and Swift Legal Action

On May 27 last year, the perpetrator lured the young child to his house with candies before sexually assaulting her. Despite being threatened with death, the brave survivor managed to return home and inform her parents, who immediately rushed her to a hospital. Special public prosecutor Bharat Sharma revealed that the injuries were so severe the child required surgery in Meerut.

A case was promptly registered under relevant BNS sections, including rape, voluntarily causing hurt, and criminal intimidation, along with provisions of the Pocso Act. The chargesheet was filed on July 24, 2024, leading to a thorough trial where the prosecution examined eight witnesses, including the survivor herself.

Convict's Criminal History and Court's Stern Rejection of Leniency

The convict, who is married with two daughters, pleaded for leniency during the proceedings. However, Special Judge Shagun Panwar firmly rejected his plea on Wednesday, condemning the crime as exceptionally heinous. SHO Manoj Kumar provided further context, stating the man had been convicted in a 2013 murder case where he and two others killed a villager.

"He was convicted in 2018 but secured bail from a higher court after challenging the order. It was during this period that he committed the rape of his niece, leading to his subsequent arrest following an encounter," Kumar explained.

Operation Conviction: UP Police's Drive for Expedited Justice

SSP Dinesh Kumar Singh highlighted that this verdict is part of 'Operation Conviction', a proactive Uttar Pradesh Police initiative aimed at accelerating convictions in cases involving crimes against women, children, and serious offenders. This program reflects a concerted effort to ensure swift and decisive legal outcomes for vulnerable victims.

The court's decision sends a powerful message about the zero-tolerance approach towards child sexual abuse, particularly when committed by repeat offenders. It also emphasizes the importance of robust legal frameworks like the Pocso Act in protecting minors and delivering justice in a timely manner.
