Man Dies After Brutal Axe Attack Over Relationship Dispute in Madhya Pradesh

In a shocking incident of violence, a 20-year-old man has died after being brutally assaulted and having his leg severed with an axe in Madhya Pradesh's Singrauli district. Police have arrested four members of a woman's family who allegedly carried out the attack over a relationship dispute, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

Details of the Gruesome Incident

The horrific attack occurred during the intervening night of February 27 and 28 in Pokhra village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Bargawan police station. The victim, identified as Sandeep Yadav from Azadpur (Ghinhagaon), was discovered lying unconscious in a field on the morning of February 28 with his left leg completely chopped off and multiple other injuries covering his body.

Villagers who found the severely injured man immediately alerted local authorities. Sandeep was first rushed to the district hospital in Baidhan for emergency medical attention. Given the severity of his condition, doctors subsequently referred him to a more advanced medical facility in Jabalpur. Despite receiving treatment at the hospital, Sandeep ultimately succumbed to his extensive injuries during the course of medical care.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Following a thorough investigation, police arrested four individuals in connection with the brutal crime. The arrested suspects include Bholanath Panika (39), Melasagar Panika (19), Pooja Panika (20), and Munni Devi Panika (40), all residents of Pokhra village where the incident took place.

According to police investigators, the violent attack stemmed from a relationship dispute between the victim and Pooja Panika. The two had reportedly been in a relationship for several months and maintained regular communication through phone calls. Police records indicate that Sandeep had visited Pooja's house on multiple occasions after being invited by her.

Background of the Relationship Conflict

The situation escalated dramatically when Pooja's marriage was arranged with another man from Sonbhadra district in neighboring Uttar Pradesh. Investigators revealed that Sandeep allegedly began pressuring Pooja to marry him instead and strongly objected to her proposed alliance with the other man.

Disturbed by the persistent pressure from Sandeep, Pooja reportedly informed her mother, brother, and uncle about the situation. The family members then devised a plan to call Sandeep to their house with the intention of convincing him to stay away from Pooja and cease his demands for marriage.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Attack

On the night of February 27, Pooja allegedly called Sandeep to her house. When he arrived at the residence, the four accused individuals restrained him and attempted to persuade him to stop meeting Pooja and abandon his insistence on marriage.

When Sandeep refused to comply with their demands and continued to insist on marrying Pooja, the situation turned violent. The accused allegedly began assaulting him with sticks, beating him severely. Police investigators stated that the attackers also used an electric wire to administer shocks to the victim in an attempt to intimidate him into submission.

The Brutal Axe Attack and Aftermath

During the prolonged assault, Bholanath Panika allegedly attacked Sandeep with an axe, completely severing his left leg. Believing that Sandeep had died from massive blood loss, the accused allegedly carried his body and dumped it in a nearby field belonging to another villager.

In an attempt to destroy evidence and mislead investigators, the accused also burned the victim's clothes. Police stated that the perpetrators tried to make the incident appear as if it were a death caused by electric wires commonly used by hunters to trap wild animals in the area.

Contrary to the attackers' belief, Sandeep was still alive when he was dumped in the field. Villagers discovered him early the next morning and immediately alerted police authorities, who began their investigation into the brutal crime.

Legal Proceedings and Custody

The four accused individuals were formally arrested on March 7 following the police investigation. They were subsequently produced before a local court, which remanded all four suspects to judicial custody as the legal proceedings continue.
