In a heartwarming act that transcended their regular duties, police officers from Lucknow's PGI police station became lifesavers by donating blood for a critically injured teenager. The incident highlights the human side of the force while a detailed investigation clarified the circumstances of the accident.
A Race Against Time to Save a Life
The incident involved a Class 9 student, identified as Mansi, a resident of Ashiana. She met with a severe road accident on Christmas Day while out with friends. She was found critically injured and soaked in blood near Neelmatha on Shaheed Path. Rushed to the Apex Trauma Centre at PGI, her condition was grave, and doctors urgently required a blood transfusion to stabilise her.
Upon learning of this urgent need, PGI station house officer Dhirendra Kumar Singh and constable Shivam immediately rushed to the hospital. Without a second thought, they donated two units of blood, providing the vital resource needed for the young girl's treatment. The Lucknow police, in an official statement, emphasised that this act was "not just a duty but a humanitarian responsibility." The timely donation played a crucial role in stabilising the teenager, reinforcing the image of the police as dedicated community partners.
Thorough Investigation Provides Clarity
While the life-saving effort was underway, police also conducted a meticulous investigation into the accident. This was prompted after the girl's mother alleged attempted murder, contradicting initial accounts from her friends who said it was a road accident.
The probe was comprehensive. Investigators examined the statement of a car driver who was following the motorcycle, reviewed CCTV footage from nearby areas, and recorded testimonies from the person who admitted the girl to the hospital as well as her friends who were riding with her. A technical inspection of the motorcycle and a detailed site survey were also carried out.
The preliminary findings presented a clear picture: the motorcycle lost balance at a sharp turn and hit a divider. Based on all collected evidence, the police concluded the incident was a case of an accidental motorcycle skid, ruling out any criminal intent or foul play.
Recovery and a Powerful Message
Mansi, who had to be put on ventilator support for five days at the SGPGI Trauma Centre, is now undergoing continued treatment. The episode, while tragic, culminated in a powerful display of empathy from the police force.
This gesture by officers Singh and Shivam goes beyond law enforcement, showcasing compassion in action. It serves as a poignant reminder of the critical role blood donation plays in emergency medical care and how swift, selfless acts can alter the course of a life.
