Tragic Lucknow Accident Claims Life of Labourer Sleeping on Flyover Divider

A devastating road accident in the Gudamba area of Lucknow resulted in the tragic death of a labourer in the early hours of Thursday. The incident occurred when a speeding SUV mounted a divider and ran over the victim, who was reportedly sleeping at the location.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The accident took place around 12:30 am on the Tedhi Pulia flyover. According to police reports, the vehicle was travelling from Khurramnagar towards Engineering College when the driver suddenly lost control. The SUV climbed onto the divider where the labourer was sleeping, trapping him underneath and dragging him for some distance.

The impact caused severe head injuries to the victim, who died on the spot. His identity has not yet been established, though locals stated that the deceased used to both sleep and cook at that same location on the divider.

Vehicle and Occupants

Police confirmed that the vehicle belonged to the Additional Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Balrampur and was attached to the health department on a contract basis. Both occupants of the SUV escaped unharmed from the accident.

Eyewitnesses described a harrowing scene where the SUV swerved dangerously after the collision due to high speed but managed to regain balance after a short distance, narrowly avoiding overturning completely.

Police Investigation and Response

Passers-by immediately alerted emergency services following the accident. Police quickly reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem examination. The vehicle has been seized by authorities, and the driver has been taken into custody for questioning.

"Some belongings were recovered from the deceased, but his identity remains unknown at this time," said ACP Anindya Vikram Singh of Ghazipur (Indiranagar). "Efforts are currently underway to identify the victim and inform his family members."

Broader Implications

This tragic incident highlights several critical issues including road safety, the vulnerability of homeless populations, and vehicle control on urban flyovers. The fact that the victim was sleeping on a divider underscores the harsh realities faced by many labourers and homeless individuals in urban areas.

The police investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the complete sequence of events and determine any contributing factors to the accident beyond the initial loss of vehicle control.
