In a shocking incident in Kharar, Punjab, a 17-year-old girl and her boyfriend have been arrested for allegedly murdering her father. The accused slit the victim's throat and dumped his body into a canal to dispose of evidence.
Details of the Crime
According to police reports, the incident occurred on the night of March 15. The victim, identified as 45-year-old Rajinder Singh, a resident of Kharar, had objected to his daughter's relationship with the accused boyfriend. This led to a heated argument, during which the duo decided to eliminate him.
The girl lured her father to a secluded spot near the canal, where her boyfriend was waiting. They attacked him with a sharp weapon, slitting his throat. After ensuring he was dead, they wrapped the body in a sack and threw it into the canal.
Investigation and Arrests
The victim's family reported him missing when he did not return home. Police launched a search and recovered the body from the canal two days later. Forensic evidence and CCTV footage from nearby areas led to the suspects.
Both the girl and her boyfriend, a 19-year-old from the same locality, were taken into custody. They confessed to the crime during interrogation. Police have charged them under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for murder and destruction of evidence.
Authorities are investigating the motive further, but initial reports suggest that the father's disapproval of the relationship was the primary trigger. The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the dangers of teenage relationships and parental opposition.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Raghubir Singh said, "We have recovered the murder weapon and the sack used to dispose of the body. The accused have been remanded to judicial custody." The investigation is ongoing.
