In a significant crackdown on organized crime, the Khanna police successfully dismantled a large-scale motorcycle theft racket this past Saturday. The operation led to the arrest of two individuals and the discovery of a godown filled with dismantled parts from approximately 100 stolen two-wheelers.
Tip-Off Leads to Major Raid
Acting on a crucial tip about a series of organized thefts troubling the region, Station House Officer (SHO) Sandeep Kumar spearheaded the investigation. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Vinod Kumar stated that the police team conducted a targeted raid based on this intelligence. The operation resulted in the apprehension of the two accused, identified as Avtar Singh and Arshdeep Singh.
Unraveling the Theft and Dismantling Network
During interrogation, the arrested duo revealed the modus operandi of their criminal enterprise. Their confession led the police to a stolen motorcycle, which ultimately exposed the nerve center of the entire operation. The gang used a godown located near the Doraha canal as their hub. Here, they would bring the stolen vehicles, systematically strip them down, and sell the individual parts across various locations in a piecemeal fashion to avoid detection.
The massive haul recovered by the Khanna police included essential components like:
- Wheels and tyres
- Engines and gearboxes
- Various other body and mechanical parts from both motorcycles and scooters
Wide-Ranging Impact and Ongoing Probe
The stolen vehicles were sourced from a broad area, affecting residents across multiple police districts. DSP Vinod Kumar confirmed that the recovered parts are linked to thefts reported from Khanna, Ludhiana, Doraha, Samrala, Payal, Sirhind, and Machhiwara Sahib.
Preliminary investigations have connected the gang to more than 100 individual theft cases, highlighting the scale of their operation. The police have emphasized that the investigation is still active and ongoing. Authorities are working to trace the network of buyers for the stolen parts and determine if more individuals were involved in the racket.
This successful operation by the Khanna police is expected to bring significant relief to the areas plagued by the theft of two-wheelers and serves as a stern warning to organized criminal groups operating in the region.
