Kanpur: Truck kills uncle-nephew duo on GT Road

A tragic road accident claimed the lives of an uncle and his nephew in Kanpur late on Wednesday night. The incident occurred on the busy GT Road, opposite the second gate of the Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in the Swaroop Nagar police station area.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The victims, identified as Shivam Sharma (25) and his maternal uncle Shivakant (27), were on a motorcycle when a speeding truck hit them. According to family members, the duo had gone to the Jareeb Chowk intersection to purchase cake boxes for their bakery business on the night of December 31.

"When they reached near the second gate of Hallett Nahariya on GT road, a truck going from Gol Chauraha towards Gumti hit their bike," said Ashutosh Sharma, Shivam's cousin. He alleged that after the initial impact, the truck driver, in an attempt to flee, ran over both men, leading to their instant death.

Police Action and Family's Allegation

Acting swiftly, the police managed to seize the involved truck near the Coca-Cola intersection. Inspector Devendra Singh confirmed the seizure and stated that a search for the absconding driver is underway. The bodies of the deceased were sent for a post-mortem examination.

A distressing allegation was raised by the family. Ashutosh Sharma claimed that Shivam was carrying between Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 for purchasing goods. However, after the accident, only Rs 250 was found on his person, raising suspicions about the missing cash.

Victims' Background and Aftermath

The two young men, who ran a bakery together, hailed from different villages. Shivam Sharma was a resident of Kanjati village in the Chaubepur police station area, while Shivakant lived in Shitalpur village under the Ghatampur police station jurisdiction. Their sudden demise has left their family and community in profound grief.
