Kannauj Police Apprehend Escaped Prisoner in Dramatic Encounter
Police in Kannauj district successfully captured undertrial prisoner Dumpy alias Shiva on Sunday. The dramatic arrest occurred during an encounter in the Kotwali Gursahaiganj area. This development comes after the prisoner's escape from District Jail Kannauj on January 5.
Injured Accused Hospitalized Under Heavy Security
The accused sustained a bullet injury to his left leg during the exchange of fire. Police immediately transported him to the district hospital for urgent medical treatment. Doctors later referred him to the medical college for further care.
A substantial police force now guards the hospital premises. Medical professionals report that Dumpy's condition remains stable at this time.
Intensive Police Operation Leads to Capture
Under the direct supervision of Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar, police teams conducted continuous raids to locate the escaped prisoner. Their efforts intensified over several days.
On Sunday, January 18, police received crucial information from an informer. The tip indicated that Dumpy alias Shiva, originally from Malgawan (Thana Thathiya), had been spotted in Kotwali Gursahaiganj.
Dramatic Confrontation and Arrest
Police quickly cordoned off the area near Tara Bagiya. This location sits along the road from Muradganj crossing toward Tirwa road.
Finding himself surrounded by police personnel, the accused made a desperate move. He opened fire on the police team.
Police responded with retaliatory action. One bullet struck Shiva's left leg during the exchange. The injury caused him to fall, enabling police to take him into custody immediately.
Weapons Recovery and Ongoing Investigation
Following the arrest, police recovered illegal weapons and cartridges from the accused. Authorities confirmed that a reward of Rs 25,000 had been announced for information leading to his capture.
Investigators continue their work on multiple fronts. They are actively investigating who provided shelter to Dumpy during his nearly two-week escape period. Police are also searching for his associate, identified as Ankit.
The successful operation demonstrates effective police coordination and intelligence gathering. It brings closure to a manhunt that had stretched across thirteen days since the initial jailbreak.
