Jamshedpur Land Department Clerk Apprehended in Bribery Sting Operation

In a significant crackdown on corruption, a head clerk serving in the land acquisition department was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Seraikela on Monday. The arrest occurred as the official was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh. The accused, identified as Pritam Acharya, was stationed at the office of the Deputy Collector Land Reforms (DCLR) in Jamshedpur.

Details of the Bribery Scheme and Arrest

According to Deputy SP of ACB, Indradev Ram, Acharya had purportedly demanded a staggering Rs 40 lakh bribe from Gurcharan Singh Sardar. This illicit payment was requested in exchange for settling a land compensation case and submitting a favorable report on behalf of the complainant. Following Sardar's formal complaint, the ACB initiated a meticulous investigation.

The operation led to the detention of a broker from Gamharia, who was then escorted along with the complainant to the district collectorate in Seraikela, where Acharya was employed. In a carefully orchestrated raid, ACB officials caught Acharya red-handed while he was allegedly accepting Rs 5 lakh as the first installment of the bribe. The swift action by the ACB team prevented the completion of the corrupt transaction.
