Jaipur Businessman Gets Rs 5 Crore Extortion Threat from Rohit Godara Gang
Jaipur Bizman Gets Rs 5 Cr Extortion Threat via WhatsApp

A prominent businessman in Jaipur has filed a police complaint after allegedly receiving extortion threats demanding a staggering Rs 5 crore. The threats, which arrived via WhatsApp, claimed to be from the notorious Rohit Godara gang. The Ashok Nagar police station registered a First Information Report (FIR) on Thursday based on the complaint.

Threats Delivered via International WhatsApp Calls

According to the official complaint, the harrowing ordeal began on December 30. The businessman received a WhatsApp call from an unknown international number. The caller, allegedly identifying himself with the Rohit Godara gang, demanded the massive sum and issued a fatal warning for non-compliance.

The intimidation escalated the very next evening, on December 31. The businessman received another WhatsApp call accompanied by a chilling voice note. The message reiterated the demand for Rs 5 crore using violent and graphic language, explicitly threatening the lives of the businessman and his family if the money was not paid.

Police Launch Investigation into Gang Links

Law enforcement authorities acted swiftly, registering the FIR immediately after the complaint was lodged. A senior police officer stated that a technical investigation is now in full swing. "We are examining the WhatsApp calls, voice notes, and the mobile numbers used to issue the threats," the officer said. "Technical analysis is underway to trace the origin of the calls and establish whether there is any real gang involvement."

Investigators, however, are approaching the case with caution. They noted that the caller's claims of being associated with gangsters Rohit Godara, Rahul Rinau, and a fallout with Lawrence Bishnoi cannot be taken at face value at this initial stage. The primary focus is to verify the authenticity of the threats.

Rising Trend of Impersonation for Extortion

Police sources indicate a worrying trend where criminals exploit the fear associated with jailed or overseas-based gangsters. There has been an increase in cases where impersonators use the notoriety of figures like Rohit Godara to intimidate and extort money from victims. The Jaipur police are also analysing whether this incident falls into that category—a sophisticated attempt to use a gangster's name to instil terror without any actual gang backing.

The investigation remains active, with cyber cells working to track the international numbers. The police have assured the public and the victim that all possible angles are being explored to ensure safety and bring the perpetrators to justice, whether they are part of an organised crime syndicate or cunning impersonators.
