In a significant crackdown, the Chunar police in Mirzapur district uncovered and shut down an illegal slaughterhouse operating covertly within a residential building. The raid, conducted on Friday, led to the arrest of the operator and the seizure of a substantial quantity of meat.
Police Raid Unearths Covert Operation
Acting on a tip-off from an informant, the Chunar police were alerted about unlawful animal slaughter and meat sales taking place within a residential compound in the Mochi Tola area. The informer specified that buffalo and calf were being slaughtered on the premises. Swiftly moving into action, the police informed relevant departmental officials and organized a raid.
The operation was led by Sub-Inspector Akhilesh Kumar Yadav. During the raid, authorities discovered the illegal slaughterhouse fully operational. 150 kilograms of meat, suspected to be from buffalo or calf, was confiscated from the spot. Police also recovered tools of the trade, including a cleaver and a wooden block used for slaughtering.
Arrest and Medical Concerns
The occupant of the property, identified as Azam Qureshi, was arrested at the scene. Following the police action, a Veterinary Officer and a team arrived to inspect the site. They collected samples for further analysis and examination.
Police officials highlighted serious concerns regarding the clandestine operation. They noted that since Mochi Tola is a mixed-population locality, such illegal activities had the potential to create resentment, disturb communal harmony, and spark law and order issues. Furthermore, authorities emphasized the grave public health risk, stating that the spread of infection from the unregulated slaughter could lead to serious diseases among the local residents.
Legal Repercussions and Case Filed
A formal case has been registered at the Chunar police station against the accused. The charges encompass multiple sections of relevant laws, demonstrating the severity of the offence. The case has been filed under:
- Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act
- Sections 271, 272, and 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)
- Section 7 of the CLA Act
Following the registration of the case, the arrested individual, Azam Qureshi, was sent to jail. This decisive action by the Chunar police underscores a commitment to upholding law and order while addressing critical public health and animal welfare violations in the region.
